WKSU PRESENTS SCREENINGS OF KEILLOR DOCUMENTARY

WKSU PRESENTS SCREENINGS OF KEILLOR DOCUMENTARY

Friday March 20, 2009

WKSU will present two exclusive screenings of "The Man on the Radio in the Red Shoes," a new documentary about Garrison Keillor, the host and creator of public radio favorite "A Prairie Home Companion." Produced and Directed by Peter Rosen and written by Sara Lukinson, the film is based on the monologues of Garrison Keillor. The film will be shown at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 1 in Cuyahoga Falls at Plaza Cinemas at Chapel Hill and on Thursday, April 2 at the Cedar Lee Theatre in Cleveland Heights. Tickets are $10 and include a small popcorn. They may be purchased in advance or at the door. Proceeds benefit WKSU. Both theatres are part of the Cleveland Cinemas group.

Filmed over a year, the movie is an unprecedented backstage peek at the force behind America's most popular radio show. Keillor, a novelist and essayist, was credited by many for reintroducing old-time radio storytelling when he launched "A Prairie Home Companion" in Minnesota in 1974. Although he has pursued a public life that involves performing his original work onstage in front of a live audience, Keillor is known as a private man and something of an enigma. "The Man on the Radio in the Red Shoes" follows Keillor and his cast as they travel the country taking their show on the road, giving the audience rare access to the interworkings of the program and the mind of America's foremost humorist. The documentary is scheduled to be broadcast on many PBS stations in June.
