The Ohio Supreme Court’s annual report shows that the number of cases filed dropped by 8 percent from 2008.  Much of the decrease stems from a 7 percent drop in traffic court filings.
Taking all of Ohio’s state, municipal and county courts combined nearly 3 million new cases were filed in 2009, the lowest number in the past decade.
But domestic violence cases hit a 10 year high.
Court spokesman Chris Davey said the statistics aren't broken out to monitor the impact of specific crimes such as red light violations or identity theft.

"The Supreme Court’s case statistics for the purpose of assisting local courts in their case flow management.  The statistics are not collected in such a way to analyze crime patterns and those types of things."

A separate report covering Mayor's courts, which handle primarily traffic cases, will be released later this year.
