Canton’s been inundated with angry emails and other reaction since videotape of a police officer went viral, especially on gun rights websites. The cruiser dashboard video shows Officer Daniel Harless threatening to kill a man he pulled over for a traffic stop.
The man, William Bartlett, has a gun and a concealed carry permit. State law requires licensees to promptly tell police officers when they’re pulled over. But, Doug Deeken of Ohioans for Concealed Carry says the officers never gave Barlett a chance, and the tape shows he was cooperative and apologetic throughout.
The video also records Harless telling Bartlett that he should have “executed” him because he is “stupid” for not telling him about the gun.
Deeken says the language of the law is vague and places responsibility on the wrong person. |

Bartlett was charged with a traffic violation and failure to notify --- both misdemeanors. Bartlett says he may sue the city.
According to the Canton Repository, Canton City Council President Allen Schulman blasted the critics at Monday night’s meeting, saying many of them are outsiders who “do not know our police.” |
