In The Region: Last month, the newspaper company Advanced Publications cut its New Orleans daily paper down to three print editions a week and laid off one-third of its staff. Readers of the Times Picayune have to go online on other days.
Advance also owns the Cleveland Plain Dealer, and the union representing its staffers has begun a campaign to save its seven-day-a-week publication. It's encouraging people in the community to contact Advanced Publications CEO Steven Newhouse. Plain Dealer science writer John Mangels told WKSU's Mark Urycki that Cleveland would be a poorer city without a full print edition and that’s why the campaign has begun. |
Plain Dealer reporter John Mangels says his paper now has 170 reporters but that’s down from 350 in the 1990’s. |
