In The Region:
The University of Akron men’s soccer team closed its season Sunday night in a heartbreaking penalty-kick loss to Creighton.

Although officially a 1-1 tie, the Zips endured two scoreless overtimes before their playoff run came to an end. It was also the last game under Coach Caleb Porter, who led the team to repeated No. 1 rankings, and one national championship.

“It was hard not to get choked up. It’s been a great ride; seven years here. So many wins. So many championships. So many accomplishments and accolades. But more than that, so many memories.”

Porter leaves Akron for pro soccer’s Portland Timbers next year, and he’ll be succeeded by Assistant Coach Jared Embick.
