People Monday, November 26, 2012 Lowered death tolls this Thanksgiving weekend Road deaths down this holiday weekend, but troopers still worried by WKSU's STATEHOUSE BUREAU CHIEF KAREN KASLER |
 Reporter Karen Kasler | | |
In The Region: Fewer people were killed on Ohio's roads this Thanksgiving holiday weekend, compared to the past three years. Lt. Anne Ralston with the Ohio Highway Patrol says it’s good news, but it could always be better. |
We've been steadily decreasing since 2009. We decreased pretty significantly this year. We recorded eleven fatalities on Ohio roadways. And the year prior we were at 17, and the year prior to that we were at 18. While the numbers are going in the righ direction, we still have a lot of work to do.
None of those who died this weekend were wearing seat belts. That includes four people who were ejected in a single-car crash in Warren County on Wednesday. Alcohol is suspected in that accident. Troopers arrested about 500 drivers around the state this weekend for driving while drunk or on drugs. |
