Crime and Courts Monday, December 3, 2012 State takes over investigation of shooting involving 13 Cleveland cops AG DeWine says community needs to be sure of a fair and full investigation by WKSU's M.L. SCHULTZE |

In The Region: The state’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation is now leading the inquiry into a shooting Thursday night involving 13 Cleveland police officers.
The shooting followed a high speed chase from downtown Cleveland to East Cleveland and ended with a man and a woman dead. There’s no indication that either of the couple, Malissa Williams or Timothy Russell, had a gun, though police say they started the pursuit after they heard what they thought was gunfire.
Attorney General Mike DeWine announced this afternoon that the state bureau is taking the lead on an investigative team that includes detectives with the Cuyahoga County Sheriff's Office and the East Cleveland Police Department.
In a statement, DeWine said, "We want to ensure the community that this will be fully and fairly investigated." The results of the investigation will go to Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Tim McGinty.
DeWine is asking anyone with information about the case to call 855-BCI-OHIO. |
