Economy and Business Friday, December 14, 2012 Plaza Cinemas closing will have ripple effects Other plaza businesses in Cuyahoga Falls liked the draw by WKSU's KEVIN NIEDERMIER |
 Reporter Kevin Niedermier | | |
In The Region: After more than a quarter century, an Akron-area movie theatre will soon go dark.
The eight-screen Plaza Cinemas at Chapel Hill in Cuyahoga Falls will show its last movie January 3rd. Neither the facility’s operator nor the Chapel Hill shopping areas’ owner could be reached for comment on why or what will replace it.
Kim Ford manages the nearby Eat and Park restaurant. She says the theater was good for restaurant business. |
“If you brought your movie ticket stub you got $2 off your meal here, so it was a nice connection to have with the movie theater. They do have some larger groups that meet there. They have a Rocky Horror Picture Show group that meets once a month and then they come over and there’s usually 40-50 of them, so we’re definitely going to miss them coming in.”
Ford says some of her employees have family members who work at Plaza Cinemas. They are among the approximately 15 employees who will be losing their jobs.
