More than a hundred Ohio teachers and school principals got some special training today. They gathered in Columbus to learn ways to possibly prevent and respond to violent attacks, like the one that killed 26 last month at a school in Connecticut. Ohio Public Radio’s Bill Cohen sat in on the session and filed this report.
More than a hundred Ohio teachers and school principals got some special training today on ways to possibly prevent and respond to violent attacks, like the one that killed 26 last month at a school in Connecticut. Former Deputy County Sheriff James Burke talked about specific tactics -- such as a barricade to block a shooter from invading a classroom.
Burke told teachers they should plan now for violent incidents, by thinking through how they could fight back against violent intruders and how their students might be able to escape a looming invasion by getting out through the classroom windows.
