U.S. Friday, February 8, 2013 Ohio gun owners protest the potential for stricter federal gun laws They're worried that Congress will pass laws banning some guns and magazines by WKSU's STATEHOUSE CORRESPONDENT BILL COHEN |
 Reporter Bill Cohen | | |
In The Region: More than a hundred Ohio gun owners rallied at the Statehouse today. As Bill Cohen reports, they were not expressing anger at the government officials who work inside that building. Instead, they were protesting federal lawmakers in Washington. |

Waving American flags and yellow banners reading “Don’t Tread on Me,” the protesters said that Ohio lawmakers have been generally friendly to gun owners, passing a concealed gun law a decade ago, and expanding it last year. But they say Congress and the president are a different story.
Jim Brown from Hamilton is worried a new federal law might ban guns and ammunition clips that can fire multiple rounds quickly.
“Somebody sits in an office in Washington, D.C. and decides that I can only carry seven rounds in a magazine — what right do they have to do that? I have a Second Amendment right.”
Brown said he doesn’t own those kinds of guns, but says if Congress bans them, it could be the first of many restrictions that will eventually hit him.
"It’s just a start. It’s a slippery slope." |
