Crime and Courts Thursday, February 28, 2013 Feds indict five men with felony records on gun charges Mike Tobin says these types of cases have been common for many years by WKSU's OZIE IKUENOBE | Reporter Ozie Ikuenobe | | |
| Five Cleveland men have been indicted for having firearms or ammunition despite all having felony convictions.
The cases are unrelated. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Ohio Adult Parole Authority, and police from Cleveland, East Cleveland the Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority Police investigated.
Mike Tobin, spokesman for the U.S. attorneys office in Cleveland, says that cases like these have been very common over the years. |
“We see all too many of these. Last year I think we indicted about 175 cases like this. So it’s a pretty steady stream of cases. The reality is it’s been a steady stream for the last 10 years.
The guns were handguns, and the ammo was from a shotgun. The Obama administration is calling for a tightening of gun laws to restrict access to assault weapons and high-volume ammo clips. Opponents counter that would do little to restrict the most common weapons used in crimes, handguns. |
