Rolling Acres Mall is headed to the auction block
The center of the mall is for sale -- with back taxes and a stripped interior -- and located in an area that's gone light-industrial

One of Northeast Ohio's dead malls is headed to the auction block.
Rolling Acres Mall in Akron opened in 1975 but has been shuttered since 2008. The owner is on the hook for about a half million dollars in back taxes. The starting bid at next month’s auction is nearly $883,000.
Tim Dimoff managed the mall until 2011, and said last year that it's more likely to be reborn for light industrial, not retail. |

“There’s already a lot of underground utilities there. It’s 50 acres. There’s plenty of parking and development. And there’s a lot of additional land outside the area of the mall as well.”
The sale includes only the mall’s midway, not the former anchor stores. Those are owned separately and currently house storage and recycling businesses. If the Oct. 7 sale is successful, the county says the back taxes will be wiped out. If not sold, the mall will be offered again on October 21.
