The country is waiting for the U.S. EPA to hand down its clean power plan, which is expected next week. Each state will have different standards to meet in order to cut down on carbon emissions. As Statehouse correspondent Andy Chow reports a group of environmental advocates held a rally in support of the plan.

A previous draft by the U.S. EPA had Ohio cutting carbon emissions by 28 percent in the next 15 years.

During a rally outside of the Statehouse, Tracy Sabetta with the National Wildlife Federation said cutting carbon emissions from coal-fired plants can reduce cardio-vascular disease and asthma attacks.

“This goes far beyond protecting our environment, far beyond just looking at whether it’s economics; this is a public health crisis that we have an opportunity to mend,” Sabetta said.

The Ohio Coal Association’s Christian Palich said he hopes the EPA chooses to side with Ohio families and businesses over, what he called “radical environmentalists.”
