A new treatment for a type of childhood cancer is the first FDA-approved use of gene-therapy.  It provides an alternative for patients who have exhausted all other options.

In this week’s Exploradio, WKSU’s Jeff St.Clair sits down with two cancer physicians who are hoping to bring the therapy to Akron.

Akron Children’s Hospital is making a major investment in North High School to turn it into a health and human services career academy.

In his annual “State of the Schools” address, Akron Superintendent David James said the hospital is pledging $250,000 – with another $150,000 from in-kind donations – toward the project.

The 14th Akron Marathon is this weekend. This year’s race features a new way to motivate runners.

Akron Children’s Hospital is sponsoring the race for the first time, and it will bring 13 patients who are struggling with – or have beaten – serious illness. Steven Marks co-founded the marathon and chairs its board of directors.
