The Cleveland Clinic is selling art to benefit hearts. WKSU’s Phil de Oliveira reports next month’s auction at Christie’s in New York will include items from the Clinic’s collection.

The eight works for sale include sculptures and paintings by Roy Lichtenstein, Marc Chagall, and Pablo Picasso.

The artworks were donated to the Cleveland Clinic by philanthropist and entrepreneur Sydell Miller, whose collection spans impressionist and modern art.

Cleveland Clinic CEO Says Operating Income Dropped by Half in 2016

The Cleveland Clinic saw a substantial drop in operating income in 2016 -- more than 50 percent over the previous year. But as WCPN's Marlene Harris-Taylor for Ohio Public Radio, the clinic’s balance sheet is still in the black, with more than $243 million in operating income.

The Cleveland Clinic is now the largest employer in Ohio with more than 51,000 employees, according to CEO Toby Cosgrove.

UNIVERSITY HOSPITALS

University Hospitals is joining on to a regional trauma care system with MetroHealth Medical Center and the Cleveland Clinic. The move comes about a year after UH opened a trauma center on the east side of Cleveland.

MetroHealth and the Cleveland Clinic started the Northern Ohio Trauma System in 2010, intended to coordinate care for people in need of serious emergency medical attention.
