Case Western Reserve University and Cleveland State University have received $1.75 million from the Cleveland Foundation to fund a joint effort coined the “Internet of Things Collaborative.”

The Internet of Things refers to devices that collect data and transmit the information to other pieces of technology through the web.

Here are your morning headlines for Friday, October 6th:


Northeast Ohioans have donated several semi-trucks worth of supplies to aid Puerto Ricans after Hurricane Maria devastated the island.

But now organizers of the aid effort have a big challenge: how to get all those goods to the people who need them. For now, the bottled water, canned food, diapers and other supplies sit on pallets at the IX Center.

This morning Irvin Maldonado oversaw volunteers cataloguing donations and readying them for shipment. By his count, there were about 420 pallets worth of goods.

An estimated 1,500 people attended about 50 breakfasts and lunches in Cuyahoga County Sunday -- to talk about problems and solutions. The Cleveland Foundation is calling the event "Common Ground."

WKSU's Kabir Bhatia was among the roughly two-dozen people who went to the  Euclid City Jail  to discuss the challenges facing people getting out of jail.
