Cleveland Hopkins International Airport

The city of Cleveland is being sued by a former Hopkins International Airport employee who federal officials believe was demoted for whistle-blowing.

Abdul-Malik Ali filed the suit earlier this week in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court calling for unspecified damages and his old job back as a field maintenance supervisor. The suit also names some current and former airport officials.

For the second year in a row, J.D. Power has ranked Cleveland Hopkins International Airport the worst medium-size facility in the country.

Hopkins scored 704 out of 1,000 in the ranking, which measures accessibility, terminal facilities, check-in, baggage claim and food, beverage and retail options.

About a hundred people rallied for a fifteen dollar minimum wage outside of Cleveland Hopkins International Airport today.  The demonstration was part of a national, union-organized day of action.

The Service Employees International Union organized rallies in Cleveland and other cities across the country. SEIU already represents city workers at Cleveland Hopkins and outside, near the arrivals area, airport employee and SEIU organizer Sandra Ellington says she’s out to support lower wage workers.

A planned expansion of service at Cleveland Burke Lakefront Airport will give business travelers a more efficient way to get to the New York City area. Ultimate Air Shuttle has announced it will include direct flights to that destination sometime early next year.
