The U.S. Department of Energy has awarded $40 million to the group building a wind farm in Lake Erie. It’s one of three wind-power demonstration projects in the country to get the money, and Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur called it “somewhat of a surprise,” after projects in Virginia and Oregon were downgraded. The three-year award is going to LEEDCo, which is building turbines about 10 miles off the coast of Cleveland.

After nearly 20 years of trying, proponents of legalizing medical marijuana use in the Buckeye state are celebrating. Statehouse correspondent Jo Ingles has details on a historic vote by the Ohio Legislature that's headed to the governor. 

 

 

 

Democratic Sen. Kenny Yuko has been pushing for medical marijuana legislation for years, and he was given the opportunity to preside over the Senate for the historic vote.

There have been some changes to the proposed bill that would legalize medical use of marijuana in Ohio. It goes before the full Ohio Senate on Wednesday.

 

Marijuana-plan changes
State lawmakers are scrapping a plan to have the Ohio Pharmacy Board regulate medical marijuana. Sen. David Burke, a pharmacist behind the idea, called the arrangement the most responsible way to oversee marijuana as medicine. But others raised concerns that the rare setup nationally would create an undue burden on the state. The  new plan would require pharmacists at dispensaries, but puts cultivation and processing under the state Commerce Department.
