The View from Pluto

Sports are a huge part of life in Northeast Ohio:  the good, the bad and the ugly.  There's the Browns, Cavs and Indians, not to mention a wealth of college action.  Every Wednesday morning, sports writer Terry Pluto from the Cleveland Plain Dealer stops by talk about it all with Amanda Rabinowitz.

The Cleveland Cavaliers entered the second-half of the season by welcoming a new player and saying goodbye to a veteran. It’s all part of the plan to try to win the NBA championship that they just barely missed out on last year. WKSU commentator Terry Pluto talks about the moves and what they mean for the Cavs.

The Cavs upset fans when they traded 12-year veteran Anderson Varejao in exchange for Orlando Magic forward Channing Frye just before last week's deadline. Pluto says it was a bittersweet move.

Men’s college basketball heats up on Friday when Kent State and Akron face each other in the first of two games between the rivals in as many weeks. Akron is in first place in the Mid-American Conference East Division with Kent State two games behind.

The Cleveland Browns are getting a backlash over their plans to eventually move training camp to Columbus, and seeking public money to do it. The Browns have opened the late-summer practice sessions at the team’s headquarters in Berea to fans for nearly 25 years. WKSU commentator Terry Pluto talks about the move and why he doesn't like it:

The Cleveland Browns are signaling they’re moving on from troubled quarterback Johnny Manziel. In a statement Tuesday, the Browns said that Manziel’s actions run counter to their expectations of players off the field and undermines the reputation of the organization.

Manziel is under investigation for a possible assault involving his ex-girlfriend over the weekend in Texas. WKSU commentator Terry Pluto says that after a tumultuous two seasons, it looks like the Browns are finally saying they’ve had enough of Manziel.

Cleveland Browns’ coach Hue Jackson has his work cut out for him over the next few months, and the 15-year NFL veteran says he’s up to the challenge. Jackson was hired last week as the team starts fresh following a 3-13 season. WKSU commentator Terry Pluto talks about why Jackson is the right fit for a troubled franchise.

Terry Pluto says Jackson was owner Jimmy Haslam's top target when the search began.
